Opposition to the bypass

These are the groups who have expressed objections and concerns:
(listed alphabetically)

  • The British Horse Society.
They agree (as we do) that traffic congestion between Penn Inn roundabout and Kerswell Gardens needs to be addressed, but stop short of supporting the bypass. They raise concerns over the impacts on bridleways.

  • The Council for the Protection of Rural England
    (Devon Branch)
They do not support the bypass and believe the fundamental issues about the repercussions remains unresolved.

Further more, they state the estimated jorney time saving of 10 minutes, does not justify the £46M (a hugely underestimated figure) expenditure. They also identify the main cause of the current motoring misery is the lack of action to make road improvements at Jury's Corner.

They continue by calling for road improvements at Penn Inn and Jury's Corner and identify this bypass scheme "would be used to justify further incursions into green field sites within the countryside with associated damaging environmental effects."
