The Kingskerswell Alliance
are delighted to announce that the much loved and successful actress Prunella
Scales CBE, former National President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England
has added her support
to our
campaign.
 |
A
passionate defender of the countryside, Prunella has given her support
to other
campaigns in Devon which threaten to erode our beautiful landscape for
ever and
says “I support the
Kingskerswell Alliance with all my heart in their
efforts to save Kerswell Downs and the beautiful countryside along the
valley
from the destruction this road would bring and to protect them for
future
generations of visitors and local people to enjoy”
Recently, Prunella visited
Torquay to re-open the hotel which inspired the legendary TV comedy
series Fawlty
Towers
in which she played the wife of the eccentric hotelier Basil, played by
John
Cleese.

Her fondness for the
beautiful county
of Devon
was established as a child during the second
world war which she spent at a small fishing village near Bideford on
the North
Devon
Coast.
Ken Pegden, chairman of the
Kingskerswell Alliance said : “we are delighted that Prunella
is lending her
support to our campaign” he added “the countryside
and wildlife of South Devon
are under severe threat from road building,
new towns and development. This could also destroy the unique character
which
underpins the local tourist economy. The proposed environmental
destruction
caused by building an unnecessary dual carriageway around
Kingskerswell, when so
many good alternatives exist, would be a tragedy, depriving future
generations
of the chance to enjoy the tranquillity and fresh air in our beautiful
countryside.”
