Kingskerswell A380 Jury's Corner 18/2/03 - Road improvements announced.

The Kingskerswell Alliance and residents of Kingskerswell are delighted to learn that Devon Couty Council have approved a £35,000 scheme to modify the junction layout at Jurys Corner. The existing four lanes will be redesignated into three lanes, with the central lane being used for right turn traffic only. This will leave a single lane on either side for through traffic. Our Alliance Chairman, Richard Hamlyn said in a press release "We are delighted, but feel this improvement scheme does not go far enough. We want a pedestrian footbridge or underpass as well. It would help the traffic situation and provide a safe pedestrian crossing which up to now has been a nightmare for mothers taking their children to school. In a Herald Express article (27/2/03) about Jurys Corner, they reminded us that seven people have been injured at this junction between 1999 & 2001. The Alliance feels that if the present four lanes are being reduced to three, then any additional land should be used to facilitate the building of the footbridge or underpass. To reduce the lanes without incorporating one of these measures is only likely to add to the delays and frustration currently experienced by motorists along this section of road. |
